With the latest processing engine and advanced AE algorithm, the a7C II detects faces and adjusts exposure accordingly, for stills and movies. It achieves consistent exposure control, even in adverse conditions such as backlighting, shadows, direct sunlight or the subject not facing the camera.

Make your vision a reality with Creative Look

Set the visual mood with Creative Look, which offers 10 customizable presets so you can capture the world your way. You can use them as they are or adjust eight parameters, including contrast, saturation and shadows, to create shareable photos and movies in-camera, without post-production editing.

Selectable RAW image sizes and quality

Lossless RAW image compression allows effective compression for smaller files without loss of quality, and can capture up to 27 frames in continuous shooting. There are three lossless compression image sizes (S/M/L), for any application, and a Light image quality selection that generates less data is provided for JPEG and HEIF.

The α7C II offers 4K 60p/50p movie shooting with full pixel readout without pixel binning, taking advantage of the latest BIONZ XR and its wide dynamic range to produce smooth images of fast-moving subjects. When shooting 4K movies at 30p, full-frame 7K oversampling delivers 4K with enhanced clarity and detail.

S-Cinetone™: cinematic look easy to create

Advanced movie recording, easier post-production

4:2:2 10-bit in-camera recording is available when using Long GOP or All-Intra compression, making it possible to achieve fuller, more natural color gradations while offering greater editing freedom.

Log recording for creative possibilities

The α7C II?s S-Log3 gamma curve highlights aspects of gradation, from shadows to medium grey (18% grey), with 14+ points of latitude. S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine settings are also provided. You can apply a custom LUT (look-up table) with a Log gamma curve to preview what the footage will look like in post-production, or conveniently record it with a PP LUT already applied.

Active mode supports manual movie shooting

Active mode improves image stabilization for hand-held shooting. Image stabilization unit, advanced gyro sensors and optimized image stabilization algorithm - together they offer smooth and stable shooting. Lenses compatible with built-in image stabilization13 combine with the camera?s structure for highly effective control, enabling clearer hand-held shooting with telephoto lenses.

Breath compensation for consistent angle

With breathing compensation enabled, the α7C II uses Sony?s Clear Image Zoom to suppress focus breathing and capture movies with more stable images. Breathing metadata can also be used with the advanced breathing compensation capabilities of the latest Catalyst Browse/Prepare Plugin software in post-production.

Metadata that facilitates the editing workflow

Sony?s Catalyst Browse/Prepare Plugin software can use the metadata embedded in recorded footage, speeding up post-production. You can add capture marks to clips during or after recording, to mark your favorite scenes and locate them quickly when playing back on the camera or editing them with compatible software.

AI processing unit for object recognition

The α7C II includes an AI processing unit dedicated to processing significant amounts of data, allowing for more accurate object recognition and the recognition of a wider range of object types.

Human pose estimation for accurate recognition

With the AI processing unit, the α7C II recognizes human movement and improves recognition of human eyes. The human pose estimation technology uses a skeleton-based model, which enables accurate recognition of eyes and body and head positions. It can even fix and track a subject who is not looking at the camera or with their face partially covered.

Reliable recognition of a wider range of objects

The α7C II has a powerful AI processing unit that recognizes people, animals, birds, insects, cars/trains and planes. It can now recognize the eyes of small and grazing animals, and the eyes and heads of dogs, cats and similar animals. It can even recognize them when you can?t see their eyes well. The camera also includes bird recognition, being able to locate the eyes of several of them, as well as their bodies and heads.

Persistent real-time tracking

The α7C II offers optimized AI-based object recognition, with greater tracking reliability in more shooting cases. Choose an object and press the shutter button halfway for the camera to start tracking it. You are then free to focus on framing and composition.

AI-based automatic framing

With AI-based object recognition, Auto Framing includes automatic cropping for optimal framing when shooting movies. Even with the camera on a tripod, the framing is continuously adjusted so that the recorded footage looks like the subject was being followed by a cameraman. Precise tracking is possible even when operating the camera remotely via the Creators? App on a smartphone.

The α7C II uses up to 759 phase-detection points in a high-density matrix that covers around 94% of the image area when capturing photos, recognizing the subject even if it only occupies a small area of the frame.

Precise AF with low EV -4.0 light

With the latest AF algorithms, the α7C II offers high AF accuracy down to EV light levels of -4.0 in AF-S mode (equivalent to ISO 100, F2.0 lenses). It also has a focus priority mode that allows for more reliable AF in low light or with smaller apertures.

Continuous photo capture up to 10 fps with AF/AE tracking

The α7C II?s mechanical and electronic shutters allow continuous shooting at up to 10 fps, or up to 8 fps in direct view mode, making it easy to capture the most photogenic moments and expressions with moving objects.

Clarity: high dot density electronic display

The XGA OLED with 2.36 million dots (approx.) and 0.70x magnification offers high resolution and contrast, for greater clarity and brightness, even in sunlight. The viewfinder?s frame rate can be set to [High] (120 fps), twice the normal rate, for a smooth image with minimal blur when tracking and capturing moving objects.

Intuitive touch control menus

Swipe from the left or right of the screen to change shooting mode with tactile icons and more. You can now press menu items halfway down to register them in My Menu and get quick access to them, making it even easier to customize the camera.

You can hold the α7C II securely, steadily and comfortably. Or you can attach a removable handle extension (sold separately), for maximum comfort and minimum fatigue during long shooting sessions.

The α7C II has a new Photo/Film/S&Q dial, for quick and independent selection. It is located next to the mode dial, which you can use to easily select the exposure mode and other key settings for each shooting mode.

Image sensor anti-dust system

The camera includes an anti-dust system, via a charging protection coating on the optical filter and an image sensor shift mechanism. There is also a [shutter when off] function that closes the shutter when the camera is off, protecting the image sensor from particles when changing the lens.
